About us
Amigos de los Amigos is a performance of social pleasures club that seeks to play with and call into questions ways that "amigos" have been portrayed, and more importantly to create a venue for "amigos" to participate in the most beautiful traditions of our city: the parade. Our motto could have been "It's clear, we're here, get used to us," but a more accurate slogan would be "It's clear, we're here, so enjoy it."
In 2009, we rolled in our First Annual Cinco de Mayo Marching Fiesta, and this year we will invite and seek out other groups to join us in the parade. We have also participated in other parades in the city. Our members include amigos and amigos of amigos. We take amigo to mean Spanish speaking (and arguably Portuguese speaking, probably Kreyole speakers and of course Mayan, Quechua, Mixtec, Zapotec speaking) peoples. Or more inclusively--hell let's just say it-- all rice and bean eating peoples of the Americas. (¿Does that mean Nuevaorleneans? You decide.)
Our Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Marching Fiesta is on May 1st, 2010.
¡Viva la diferencia!
